How the AirAid Modular Intake Tube Works

An internal 4 stroke combustion engine uses the fuel and air mixture that comes in through the intake to create an explosion in the engine cylinder that creates pressure that forces the piston down driving the crank shaft. This amount of air an intake can pull in is restricted by many different factors. Here are just a few:

  • The air filter
  • The size of the intake tube
  • The source of the air

Air Filter - The factory air filter that is used to block foreign particles from entering the engine is generally made from a cloth like material that catches dust and other debris. These particles build up and restrict the air flow. This restricted air flow makes your engine work harder to pull the air in through the air filter. The harder the engine has to work to pull the air into the intake, the less power the engine can generate to produce motion for your Car, Truck or SUV. By purchasing an AirAid Cold Air Intake System or an AirAid Replacement Lifetime Air Filter you are allowing a higher volume of air through the AirAid air filter and cleaner air into the engine intake.

Size of the Intake Tube - The factory intake tube that comes on most vehicles is an adequate size for basic engine functionality. If you are looking to get increased performance and better fuel efficiency the AirAid Modular Intake Tube was designed to increase the amount of air an engine intake will allow into the engine. The AirAid Modular Intake Tube has a much larger diameter and the interior walls of the intake tube are much smoother and offer less restriction of the air flow than the factory Intake Tube. This larger diameter causes the air to enter the intake system with a much larger force and the engine doesn't have to work as hard leaving more power for the engine to generate motion for the Car, Truck, or SUV.

Source of the Air - Most vechicles with standard factory intake systems pull the air from very close to the engine. This causes the air to be very warm and not very densely packed. This means less air gets into the intake. When an AirAid Modular Intake tube is combined with an AirAid Cold Air Intake System the air is colder and thus more densely packed and the amount of air pulled into the intake is greater because of the larger diameter of the intake tube. The more freely the air can be pulled in the less work the engine has to do to pull sufficient amounts of air into the intake.

Sensors on all modern vehicles will only allow a specified amount of air into the cylinder heads. So when you read "better air flow" or "more air flow" through the intake system, really you are reading that there is "less restriction of the air flow".
